Dr Huynh Van Son, Vice Rector in Ho Chi Minh City, Pedagogy University.

Assoc.Prof.Dr. Huynh Van Son shared the research topic about self-destructive phenomena of junior high school students and preventive measures

Assoc.Prof.Dr. Huynh Van Son shared his research on "the phenomenon of self-destructive youth in junior high school students and preventive measures"

According to Assoc. Dr. Huynh Van Son, at present, the greater the degree of school psychological disturbance, Vietnamese students face many psychological problems. Therefore, puberty children have self-made actions of self-pity that are worth considering. This study finds a reason for finding a way to prevent this phenomenon.

Self-destructive behavior includes self-pessimistic, pessimistic thinking about life, self-defense, feeling depressed with specific signs of physical and clinical. Sometimes it does not recognize the subject.

The manifestation of this phenomenon is focused on behaviors such as neglect of health, life itself, refusal of protection (no helmet, life jacket …); self-agitation, hair, skin shedding, self-poisoning, self-esteeming; Concerned in silence, do not express their feelings. Even higher levels of suicide attempt, commit suicide.

The research team also conducted a survey of 1,043 students in 7 colleges in Ho Chi Minh City and Binh Duong. Results from the behavioral study revealed that 643 students (61.6%) had their own negligence and demonstrated their lack of responsibility. In addition, 401 people have "pessimistic thinking about life" for the second highest share (38.4%). Up to 149 students admitted that "they are hurting", accounting for 31.6%.

From 1 043 students, 280 people showed 280 self-destructive behavior.

In particular, the self-destructive signs on the body have alarming numbers on many and many levels, such as hair loss amounted to 18.2%; self-service also accounted for 18.2%. Scary is self-defense and self-defense behavior accounts for over 35% on two levels and many. Dumping to something also stands for almost 20%.

"We have had an in-depth study of a student who has the habit of striking his head against the wall when something is not right with parents and teachers. Touching his head with his hands can clearly see the tracks, even though it is covered over time, he has also become disturbed deeply, "Assoc. Dr Huynh Van Son said.

"On a heavy level, there are one and a lot of one and two students. However, considering the total number of 280 children, the ratio of almost 1% is still alarming," says Son.

Assoc.Prof.Dr Huynh Van Son also said that the more worried students in psychology, the easier self-destructive behavior, which is easy to see in the sixth grade students, is first grade and grade 9 is the final class Preparation for the test. However, it is not due to the pressure of others that they have self-destructive behaviors, but in many cases they expect themselves too much of themselves. Some children are attacked by their friends, forced or imitated by emotions.

In particular, statistics show that substances that show signs of self-destruction tend to focus on good, average and good students. Specifically, among them there are 99 excellent students, 110 good students, 51 average students. Similarly, the proportion of students with good behavior and relative majority, while the proportion of students with average behavior, weak and lower, is almost negligible.

The research group also proposed preventive measures, including increased awareness of self-destructive behavior among high school students, teachers and special school advisors. In addition, they organize integrated quality of life seminars to develop the ability to handle this behavior for students. At the same time, one builds a knowledge-based system and exercises that teach students "self-destruction" to regulate psychological conditions and handle these behavioral stimuli.
