Neighbors Calling Cops On Drunken Man, Maryland Police Harass And Arrest Black Man Helps Intoxicated Man Instead

A Maryland man's good act of helping a drunk neighbor to his home ended his arrest in an event of criticism calling a clear case of racial profiling.

Viral video sent to Instagram shows 23-year-old Samir Ahmed arrested by four Montgomery County police officers in response to a conversation about a drunk man who needed medical help. In the clip, several neighbors in Washington hear the suburb calling out to the police that they have the wrong person, but an officer insists Ahmed is the one affected.

"He actually helped the person under influence," says a man who signs in on November 17th. "Why are you holding him?"

"He lives here! This is our neighbor!" A woman is recording. "He is not under the influence. The man was unconscious on the floor here. Why do not you help the person who needs help?"

As angry witnesses continue to push officers on the cause of Ahmed's arrest, one of the officer's response, "We do not answer you" and continue to pin the man-cuffed man on the back of a car.

Reminding events on that day, Ahmed WUSA 9 said he came home at 11:15 am and found a full man walking out near his outer court. According to an Instagrapost, he picked up the man and went home. The young man said he was met by the police when he returned to his own home, because someone had called 911 for the man whom he only helped.

"There was a man out there who was unconscious. He helped the man," explains a man in the video.

It was not until several minutes in a heated back and forth with neighbors that officials explained why Ahmed was arrested: "The little one I know right now, and I'll figure out the rest at the station is that they came up here for the fire call and that This guy happened to be in the area and the officer smelled of a smell of marijuana coming from him. "

The suspicion of marijuana asked the police to seek Ahmed, but law enforcement agencies claimed he refused and gave them a hard time about it. The young man was arrested later because he opposed arrest and disordered conduct, including accusations, according to WUSA 9.

Ahmed admitted that he had a small amount of marijuana on him, which he said he had a quote for.

"It was so little that I did not even know I had it," he told HuffPost.

Ahmed, who is black, said he thought things would have gone a lot different if he was white and claimed he undoubtedly knew that "the breed played a role" in his arrest.

"Because I know if I was blond with blue eyes, that would not matter," he added.

Ahmed said he knows at least three neighbors who have filed complaints against the Montgomery County Police Department since the incident.

His first legal appearance is scheduled for January.
