2021 Lexus LC500 Convertible drops the roof and becomes the best Lexus that still no one will buy

The Lexus LC500 is one of the best cars, none, for sale right now. It's a shame for the damn near nobody to buy them, though Lexus gets fewer than 2,000 out the door in 2018. But none of that means for now there is somehow a car even better than Lexus LC500. It is Lexus LC500 Convertible, and you know it's a convertible because it says it right in the name.

If you have never had the (extremely rare) pleasure of driving a Lexus LC, you are missing out. It's long and it's low. It looks like an absolute spaceship. And despite the huge wheels, squat height and impossibly thin tires, it is shockingly comfortable. You look like a casual visitor from another galaxy, come and look at "normal" people in their Audis and Cadillacs. It's brilliant.

So every other entry in the Lexus LCs category has my full support. And the "vert version" does not disappoint.

Am I a sucker for blue and white interiors, remind me of the yacht I don't own? Why yes, yes I am.

Will I praise this car and its color combination shown here, gushingly and effusively? Why yes, yes I will.

That's wonderful. Every single middle-class family in the United States should be able to afford one. Look at it. Look at the aesthetic pleasure it gives the eye, the smooth pleasures that leather would give you at the bottom.

Domestic happiness would rise. The level of civilization would rise. Progress would be made. Inspired by its otherworldly view, interstellar spaceships would take flight. Its technology, stories that were originally told in a Lexus press release, would inspire all of us to ditch our unsprung weight and improve our comfort:

Engineers aimed to maintain similar handling dynamics as the LC 500 compartment and at the same time improve the rigidity of the chassis with the addition and removal of various structural braces. The LC Convertible's suspension is specifically tuned to complement the subtle weight changes between the two platforms, as a reduction of unsprung weight in the front suspension improves the overall stroke. In the rear, engineers were able to further improve structural rigidity by reshaping and moving the rear suspension tower. The weight was reduced on the rear of the vehicle using a lightly cast aluminum suspension, while a performance damper is used to improve driving comfort.

Unfortunately, this blue version is limited to just 100 units, for scarcity is just a reminder of the scarcity we have to endure in our own lives.

But once you're inside the Lexus LC convertible, you don't have to worry about the trouble around you. While open-top cars have had ventilation openings around their necks for several years now, the HVAC system in this even ensures that your hands on the steering wheel stay nice and tastefully warm:

With the new LC Convertible, even if the weather cools down, that doesn't mean the top has to stay. In fact, the HVAC system is designed to automatically adjust the temperature whether the top is raised or lowered, and if the top is down, the heater is designed to keep the upper body warm. Lexus Climate Concierge with upper body heating automatically manages air conditioners, seat heaters, head heaters and steering wheel heaters to ensure the cabin is at the perfect temperature even in the absence of outdoor weather. The HVAC system has also been optimized to send hot or cold air to the back of the driver's hands as he grips the steering wheel.

But Lexus has noted that pleasures are not just limited to the growing, freezing cold entropy of the universe. It also wants to preserve the hearing experience and notes that it is there is active noise cancellation throughout the car, there are no fake engine sounds that create a fake simulacrum of the wonderful, 471-horsepower 5.0-liter naturally aspirated V-8.

No one will buy this car, and it's not a loss just for Lexus Corporation ™, but for all of us.
