The trailer has been released for Detective Pikachu, the first ever live action movie centered on Pokemon!
The clip arrived on Monday with the courtesy of the movie's star, Ryan Reynolds, who represents the movie's adorable yellow titular.
"I think we all knew I'd quit like a miniature detector who repeatedly said the same two words," he wrote on the trailer. "Just did not think it would be as soon." As diehard fans are aware, this is a pleasure to the character phrase, "Pika Pika."
In the clip, which exists in a world where Pokemon interacts with people, Pikachu is in the home of Tim (Justice Smith), a young man who desperately tries to find his missing father. Before things get ugly, Pikachu discovers that Tim can actually understand him, while everyone else just hears "Pika Pika".
As the title and video game of the same name suggests, Pikachu is a detective (also sporty a signature Sherlock Holmes cap) and former partner of Tim's dad. Meanwhile, Tim is alone with a serious mystery to solve. Of course, a partnership takes shape.
The trailer boasted with all beloved Pokemon, including Jigglypuff, Charizard and Psyduck, as Tim and Pikachu try to unravel the truth and lead them on a dangerous journey. Based on what we see here, fans can clearly expect no lack of action or clear simple lines from Reynolds.
The film also plays Rita Ora, Ken Watanabe, Bill Nighy and Suki Waterhouse.
Detective Pikachu arrives at theaters on May 10, 2019.
