Berbatov – Stay behind Sterling!
Dimitar Berbatov, former Man United, says that Raheem Sterling's raid on Wednesday was the fault of the referee and the reaction to the event shows that the wing needs more media support.
Manchester City was absolutely superb at Shakhtar on Wednesday, made some good goals and played good football. But the headlines are about punishment Raheem Sterling "water".
It was one of the things that could happen when you did not get your feet together properly. It was really not intentional but the mistake was from the referee to call it a ugly, nobody else.
I know it was the famous occasion when Robbie Fowler told the referee that he was wrong to award a penalty, but it's not the players job to do that and I do not see what all the essence is about Sterling. What should the court do? Cancel the punishment? It did not happen when Fowler spoke to the referee.
And on the proposals that the city should have forfeited the punishment, Berbatov said that it would not have been in the city's minds.
Can Gabriel Jesus have missed the punishment for purpose? No way! Strongers want to score.
Sterling is a player who seems to write negative headlines no matter what he does, but it should not overlook what he did during the match – he did a great goal and played really well.
This is one of England's best and most important players and the English media should come behind him – support your own player!
