A group of boys and girls with intellectual disabilities participated with their comrades in a supportive puppet theater organized by Emirates actress Aisha Al Balushi and host of Manarat Al Saadiyat in Abu Dhabi Saturday (November 10).
This is the second event organized by the Organizational Committee for Special Olympics Abu Dhabi 2019 in the framework of joint technical workshops in collaboration with the United States Embassy in UAE and Amideast and the participation of children of interest between 12 and 18 years.
The talented Emirati artist uses different materials and techniques to create her art and dolls. The technical workshops are a major part of community events organized throughout the UAE to introduce the Special Olympics Abu Dhabi 2019 and its mission and goals.
Solidarity workshops are part of a community-based operational program across the UAE aimed at introducing the Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019, raising awareness and educating society about people with intellectual disabilities and how to involve them and integrate them into all walks of life. The Solidarity Art Workshops attracted 12 children with their mothers and dozens of volunteers. Baluchi also supervised another workshop to teach young people how to do puppets on November 24th.
Two new workshops will be held on 8 and 15 December at Manarat Saadiyat under the supervision of other artists, as well as more planned solidarity events to be launched at the beginning of the new year. At the end of the series of workshops, all works produced at the workshops will be exhibited at an exclusive art exhibition held in Manarat Saadiyat on March 16-28, 2019 during the special Olympics.
