At the auction house in Geneva, Christies on Tuesday next week is a special gem for sale. Pink Diamond "Pink Legacy" has a weight of almost 19 karat, according to the auction house.
His auction could cost between $ 30 million and $ 50 million.
"Knowing that most pink diamonds weigh less than a karat is a big deal," said Christie diamond expert Jean-Marc Lunel on Friday. The stone was "quite extraordinary and probably the most beautiful one ever publicly auctioned".
"Pink Legacy" belonged a long time to the Oppenheimer family, who once ran the mining company De Beers. The stone was discovered more than 100 years ago in South Africa and was processed in the 1920s. The name of the current owner does not want to call Christie's.
