The Opera singer and director Božena Hanáková died

At the age of 88 on Monday (26 November), the personality of Slovak and Košická opera, opera singer, director and educator Božena Hanáková. TASR informed the spokesman for the state theater (ŠD) Košice Svjatoslav Dohovič. In the basketball library Hanáková has been active since 1954 for more than 50 seasons.

Theater and opera was given to Hanáková in Vienna, born in the theater artists' family. As a child, she played in the opera productions of the Slovak National Theater (SND), where her mother worked at that time, mezzosoprano Ružena Kustrová. At the Academy of Performing Arts she studied opera singing and dancing.

"Soon after school, she went to the State Theater Košice, where she performed successfully a number of opera and opera characters – Jolana and Julia in Cigánska Lava, Adel in Netopier, Valencia in Vesele widow, Zerlin in Don Giovanni, Musetta in Bohemia, Rosina in Barbier from Sevilla, Olympia in Hoffmann's short stories and many others, says Dohovič. Together with his husband, sculptor Jan Hanák, they later formed a stage crew that performed a number of operatic and operetta performances in the Košice Theater with Danica Hanáková, a costume designer, in 1997 she prepared her Latest production – Opera Giuseppe Verdi La Traviata, which was played on stage in ŠD until January of this year.

"She has been faithful to the Košice Theater throughout her professional career, but she has successfully hosted Prague, Ostrava, Brno, Miškovci and she has also performed on tours in the Netherlands and Germany," Dohovič said.

Ensemble of ŠD Košice Opera presents its monument and reminiscent of the performance of Verdi Nabucco opera on Wednesday 28 November.
