The Office for Medicine and Medical Equipment in Serbia (ALIMS) issues an emergency warning to physicians and patients regarding the damage to high pressure drugs.
Medicinal products used extensively in Serbia, given to all patients with high blood pressure and containing active substance hydrochlorothiazide, can cause skin cancer from melanoma.
In the news service, first published a list of 32 controversial drugs:
Enelapril vivace thermicol corace telmipres skopril iruzid nebilet mikardis prilazid losar erinorm kemokvin hemopres irbenida prilenap prilinda tensek janida ampil kazakombi enap lorista tolukombi valsakombi, lodoz, condiovan, monopril, enates, binevol, tritace, diurnorm.
Cardiologists say that these drugs are often prescribed and warned patients not to stop treatment without consulting the doctor.
Pavel Zelić from ALMIS told TV Test that the drugs will not be withdrawn from the market and patients should not interrupt the treatment.
"The letter is a precautionary measure, issued in Croatia and other EU countries. There is no need to withdraw drug from the market. Caution is about the possibility of these extremely rare cancers occurring. All this is a regulatory aim to be more careful . "Doctors and patients pay attention to the skin," he said.
He pointed out that the use of drugs continues because their benefits are high.
