Mauritania: SNIM, a new ADG to raise the rib

#Mauritanie : The Board of the National Industry and Mining Company SNIM, the largest company in Mauritania, has appointed Hacena Ould Ely as CEO of the company. A company in bad shape right now.

Meeting in Paris, the Government of the National Industrial and Mining Company (SNIM), the largest public company in Mauritania (whose capital is 74% owned by the state), approved a proposal from the Mauritanian government appointing Hacena Ould Ely as Executive Director (ADG ).

Hacena Ould Ely replaces Ahmed Salem Ould Bashir, appointed prime minister at the end of October.

SNIM's new boss is an economist with education. He was General Manager of Nouakchott's Autonomous Port, called the Friendship Port (PANPA) until he was appointed head of the mining company.

Hacena Ould Ely was also the first Managing Director of Mauritanie Airlines International (MAI). He was Minister of Fisheries from September 2008 to August 2009.

The new ADG arrives at the root of a company with a large debt of over 250 billion ouguiyas (MRO), according to local press.

Thus, "lack of competitiveness and lack of resources", the online news page "Al Akhbar" presents the situation of a company "on the brink of bankruptcy".

Historically, SNIM provides more than a third of state budget resources. But for this year, intake has been drastically reduced.

The Minister for Economic and Financial Affairs, Moctar Ould Diaye, explains this weaker decline in the world price of iron ore.

SNIM is Mauritania's largest employer after the state, with more than 6000 agents.
