Arsenal striker Welbeck faces serious injury to ankle
LONDON (Reuters) – Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck left the plane on a stretcher and needed oxygen during his side's match against Sporting on Thursday in Europe's football league after falling wrong and trying to play the ball with his head hours after joining the England squad.
Welbeck jumped to play the ball in front of the goal at Emirates Stadium and fell to the ground as he suffered for medics to intervene to treat him.
The paramedics gave him oxygen and went out of the arena on a stranger among a greeting from his fans.
England coach Gareth Southgate joined Welbeck earlier this day for a friendship against the United States and a league match against Croatia this month.
Arsenal did not comment immediately on the severity of Welbeck's injury, whose contract expires in the late 2018-2019 season.
