Van Bommel accepts 'experienced' Viergever and Hendrix red cards | NOW

PSV coach Mark van Bommel blames Nick Viergever and Jorrit Hendrix for getting red in the match against FC Utrecht on Saturday. With nine against eleven, PSV could bring in little more against the Utrecht, who went from 1-0 to a 3-0 victory.

"We gave away the match ourselves by two stupid red cards," Van Bommel said after finishing at Stadium Galgenwaard FOX Sports.

Both Viergever (68th minute) and Hendrix (75th minute) got red after a hard tackle and after interference from the VAR. Referee Danny Makkelie only had to see the images briefly to still draw the red card.

"I haven't seen the fouls yet, but if an umpire draws red so fast and so convincingly it does say something. Maybe stupid isn't quite the right word, but if you stand 1-0 you shouldn't get a red card. I certainly blame them for that, they are two experienced guys. Even if they don't get red, I don't think they lost their heads, but it just shouldn't happen. "

'We had a good phase around the 1-0'

Van Bommel also sees the red cards as a leading cause for the defeat of PSV in Utrecht, even though the home club came to the lead shortly after rest with eleven to eleven. Quarterback changed a distance shot from Sander van der Streek, giving goalkeeper Jeroen Zoet a chance.

"We had a good phase around the 1-0," Van Bommel said. "We could score as well. Nothing was going on, but you have to stay in the game."

"With ten to eleven I also believed in it and even with nine men we put pressure. As far as that is concerned I can't blame the boys. Everyone has fought to the end, but with two men less it is a lot harder. "

Viergever and Hendrix are most likely missing a duel with AZ

With goals from Adam Maher and Sean Klaiber, it became more painful for PSV, who will be battered by the 'red' evening in Utrecht next week in the home match against AZ. Most likely, Viergever and Hendrix are suspended, which makes them unavailable against the Alkmaarders. The disciplinary committee of the KNVB on Monday bends over the cards.

Next Thursday, Viergever and Hendrix can just get in action. PSV then play in the Europa League at home against LASK Linz. The match at the Philips Stadium starts at 21.00.
