Fireworks in Amsterdam from next year only in special zones

From the beginning of the year, the lighting of fireworks in Amsterdam is only allowed in special zones. In the future, the number of fire-free zones will be expanded in the coming year, according to a letter from Mayor Halsema to the City Council.

The measures must significantly reduce the congestion and deployment of the rescue service. Halsema has a research agency that measures the opinion of residents in the city before special zones are designated.

The municipality will also consider increasing the number of fireworks. During the coming year, there will be a fireworks on Java Island.

Rotterdam decided last month to further limit fireworks from the end of 2019/2020 by appointing 35 fireworks. According to the government, a nationwide ban on firepills is unthinkable.
