Sporting Lisbon appointed Marcel Keizer as a coach on Thursday night. The former coach of Ajax signs a contract until mid 2021 with the Portuguese top club.
Al-Jazira, Emperor's former club, announced earlier on Thursday that the 49-year-old Nord Hollander had left and could sign up for Sporting Lisbon at any time.
The Portuguese announced the emperor's arrival a few hours after the Europa League match with Arsenal. Sporting scored pointlessly against "Gunners" at Emirates Stadium and therefore has good paper for a place in the next round.
Emperor reported yesterday that he approached Sporting to succeed José Peseiro. The Portuguese was fired last week by the top club from Lisbon, currently third in the Portuguese league. Lagerns leader FC Porto and number two Braga are two points.
Already months restless at Sporting Lisbon
It has been hectic for months at Sporting, where Dutch strikes Bas Dost and Luc Castaignos are under contract. The players and staff were attacked by hooligans at the training complex in May, after which several players and coaches Jorge Jesus left.
The club commanded Sinisa Mihajlovic as successor of Jesus, but Serbian said goodbye after nine days. His replacement Peseiro did not last long.
Emperor was Ajax head coach at the beginning of last season, but was kicked there in December because of the disappointing results. Last summer, the former coach of FC Emmen, SC Cambuur and Jong Ajax signed with Al-Jazira in the United Arab Emirates.
The Emperor's contract with Sporting Lisbon will officially take place on November 12th. That means he will not be on the bench on Sunday when his new team will compete against low-flying GD Chaves in the competition.
