Some 50,000 people have benefited from the two phases of the regularization of the situation of migrants organized by Morocco, about 85% of the total number of applications submitted by foreign nationals with 113 nationalities, announced Wednesday in Rabat, the Interior Minister, Abdelouafi Laftit. This program has benefited 26,000 people since 2002, he said.
In the same context, the Minister emphasized that public and security authorities have continued to manage networks for trade and trafficking, using sophisticated means to transport illegal immigrants while using digital tools.
In this regard, the Moroccan official noted that the efforts carried out until the end of September 2018 allowed to defeat 68,000 illegal immigration attempts and to dismantle 122 active criminal networks in this traffic, knowing that since 2002 more than 3 300 criminal networks were abolished and Approximately 2,000 stewards were seized.
Mr Laftit also stressed that the Interior Ministry is determined to fight the various forms of crime affecting citizens' sense of security, such as wearing knives, shopping psychotropic drugs and drugs, pickpocketing and crimes committed close to educational institutions, suggesting that efforts to check the security situation in the UK, which is quite normal and positively reflects Morocco's image in terms of stability and security.
As regards the fight against drug trafficking, the Interior Minister emphasizes that the efforts made by the competent authorities have allowed, until the end of September 2018, to exploit more than 51 tonnes of chira, more than 90 tonnes of kif, more than 617 kg of cocaine and 606 239 psychotropic tablets, in addition to the dismantling of several criminal networks specializing in international drug trafficking.
With regard to international security cooperation, Laftit assured that the ministry focused this year on strengthening cooperation at international and regional level by holding many bilateral meetings with officials from several friendly countries and monitoring and coordinating negotiations on several partnership agreements in this area. It is also according to the minister the participation of the Ministry's competent services in several meetings and preparatory meetings at high level joint committees interested in security.
