In a video sent during a ceremony in New York to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations, Bourita stressed that the world “does not need a multilateral system of categories, which anchors the principle of groupings, as much as we need a more open one. , practical and pragmatic diversity, far from the logic of groupings ”.
“The creation of a multilateral system, renewed and fair, is not, according to the Kingdom of Morocco, a luxury that some believe, but a necessity to guarantee the strengthening of international solidarity that must guide the world. post-Covid-19 “, he insisted in front of the representatives of 193 UN member states.
And to remember that Morocco has on several occasions expressed the need to reconsider the purpose of multilateral measures that are experiencing a real crisis, which requires the development of an innovative strategy and concepts of consensus that can introduce a new dynamic. to address current and future challenges and strengthen the efficiency of international institutions.
In this regard, the Minister continued, Morocco welcomes the efforts of the UN Secretary-General and the spirit of initiative and perseverance he has shown during the Covid-19 pandemic and welcomes his call for intensifying efforts for a stronger UN organization and renewed multilateral action.
And to note that the Covid-19 pandemic was an amplifier of the dysfunctions that hinder the achievement of the highest goal of the Sustainable Development Agenda, namely the fight against economic and social inequalities, under the slogan “leave no one behind”.
For him, if Morocco has expressed its appreciation for the results of UN action, the Kingdom, through its link to the noble mission of the international organization, calls for “more collective efforts to meet the challenges we face and avoid their political, economic, social and environmental repercussions ”.
The Moroccan minister also noted that the world is going through a critical period, in the sense that “each of our decisions will affect the future of present and future generations”.
“That is why we need a strong and credible organization. In return, our organization needs our political will and our innovation to enable it to play its role as a global forum for dialogue and joint action, he concluded.
