Nobody wants to give
MEXICO CITY .- With the presence of special guests and part of the cast, the Mexican film "Roma", directed, written, co-photographed and co-produced by Alfonso Cuarón, his long-awaited premiere at the Cineteca Nacional.
This semi-biographical version of Cuaron's formation in Mexico City, which follows a middle-class family and her housewife, came to the arena after playing at the Morelia International Film Festival.
Room One of the National Cineteca was the space where only some, including some media, could enjoy this movie on the big screen, as it will be until December 14th when released through the Netflix platform.
During the presentation, part of the casting was paraded through a red carpet, among them, the main character Yalitza Aparicio and Marina de Tavira, as well as Latin Lover, who in the film give life to Professor Zovek; and as special guests actors Juan Manuel Bernal and Joaquín Cosío, who passed the cameras.
The expectation of the presence of Alfonso Cuarón became evident in this cultural center, as many were waiting for their arrival, including the press, but in the end it did not happen and the group of guests who waited outside the room arrived at 7.30 am. In front of a full moon, constantly blinking and drawing from the show, it was as the winning movie of the Golden Lion was screened at the Venice International Film Festival 2018.
The controversy that broke out at the beginning of the week due to the refusal of the two biggest movie companies in Mexico, Cinépolis and Cinemex, continued yesterday.
Cinépolis, the country's largest cinema chain, said that the reason why it will not show "Roma" by Alfonso Cuarón is that the film was sold to Netflix, whose business model has not considered its exhibition according to the traditional model in cinemas.
As a result, Cinépolis called on the "streaming" platform to delay the release of the movie on its platform, scheduled for December 14, as the worldwide exhibition model in cinemas traditionally requires a window of exclusivity of titles in about 90 days.
"Since May this year, we had a conversation with Netflix with the greatest willingness to publish" Roma "in our cinemas, respecting the traditional window of the show. However, the window offered by Netflix is far from the industry's common practice, says a statement.
Cuarón deplored in social networking decisions of these companies not to include "Romans" in the programming of their rooms.
The Siglo XXI cinemas, located inside the congress center, confirmed yesterday that they will tighten the movie "Romans", as of December 6th. The complex received congratulations from users to include the movie in its programming. In the next few days he said he should inform about schedules.
