Open bid concept does not affect Bumiputra's agenda: Lim

GEORGE CITY: The government's commitment to introducing the open procurement concept does not affect the Bumiputra agenda, according to Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng (pix).

In fact, he said that the measure is seen as opening more opportunities for entrepreneurs from Bumiputra to secure projects fair and open to all without being limited to only certain quarters.

"What is now practiced is that we switch to open bidding. What's on the Bumiputra agenda is still the same but under open bid. This is unlike the past when you have to get a signature for some parties or to favor people with strong ties . We do not want to see them happen again.

"I hope there are no effects in open bidding, including class F entrepreneurs. As an example, when we practiced it in Penang, we were able to see that Bumiputra entrepreneurs really work. This is what I want to focus on" he told reporters after presenting a briefing about budget 2019, this evening.

He said through open tender that there were no direct negotiations or limited tenders for certain projects, including government projects such as Perbadanan National Berhad and Majlis Amanah Rakyat.

Meanwhile, Glue, also Bagan MP, denied statements by several Kelantan leaders that Budget 2019 did not give sufficient attention to the development of East Coast states. He said such statements were completely insignificant, as the distribution for each state in the budget in 2019 showed an increase and the government was fair without marginalizing any state.

"For states we increased (distribution) from RM27.9 billion to RM31.7 billion for development projects, including in Kelantan. Not only was the distribution for Penang increased, Kelantan's allocation also increased from RM1 214 million to RM1 376 million.

"This clearly shows that we did not marginalize any state, we acted fairly even though the state was not in line with the federal government," he said.

In that regard, he told leaders, especially those from the opposition parties, to stop playing fire and hatred and instead give arguments based on facts and numbers. – Bernama
