Due to delays and technical issues, Windows 10 may be upgraded again.

Almost one month after the initial release release, Microsoft has been able to download Windows October 10, 2018 – this update was interrupted almost immediately after the first attempt to distribute it because an error has occurred that some users lost their data.

Typically, Windows feature updates are distributed in steps, which automatically offers new downloads during certain time periods, which will not be an exception for this time. First of all, the proposal to install a new system version involves two groups of people: those who manually search for updates, and those using the special media creation tool for the implementation of the new system. If these users do not encounter new bugs, Windows 10 will be available to other users in the coming weeks.

Interestingly, officially Microsoft's first failed attempt to upgrade systems is classified to be generally inadequate, and the release date for the new release is November 13th. This is important for the operating system "support windows". The support period since the same day started with Windows Server 2019 and Windows Server 1809.

Due to the inconvenience some enthusiastic users have made the Windows 10 update available, Microsoft will tighten up software testing and development processes. A data loss error occurred before publication of the official update also by a user of the Windows Insider program, but for unknown reasons, Microsoft did not consider these complaints sufficiently serious: Microsoft's response was limited to a new feature – proprietary testers were given the opportunity to detect each detected error marked by its importance. An error that results in data loss is undoubtedly more important than any type of ugly icons or unauthorized custom text. However, it is still difficult to say how sorting increases the quality and effectiveness of bug reporting.

What will Microsoft change?

For a slightly longer operating period, Microsoft has promised more openness to release the Windows 10 development and testing process and in the next few months, you can expect to learn more about how OSs change their attitudes and processes. The quality of Microsoft software is already evaluated on several levels and in several different dimensions. For example, when users began to complain after the operating system update was released, an "initial quality error" was detected regarding the stability and reliability of the new functional update. Detecting this kind of error means that the experienced operating system tests have done something wrong. Tuesday increased cyber security update bubbles and issues related to "long-term quality" – the reliability and effectiveness of more weekly updates.

Although Microsoft confirms the issue of the latest update, the company officially evaluates the operating system path. The company's managers mainly use certain indicators that are used to assess the operating system's satisfaction. The first is the "incidence rate" or the number of complaints received from users after each update of the system. Throughout the life of Windows 10, this indicator has declined steadily. That means something Microsoft is doing well. Incidents may, however, be misleading. The Windows 10 error with a large number of users is a cosmetic mistake that causes more messages than a more serious event – such as data loss – which only a small amount of users experience, although the latter type of event is undoubtedly more important.

Another indicator is "net promoter's score" or an estimate of how users would be willing to recommend each version of Windows 10 to their friends and family. The company's representatives believe this indicator is also rising, and the spring version of Windows 10 has been getting the best estimate all the time. However, this indicator can not show serious problems encountered by a small number of users.

Windows user base is huge and complex – 700 million. consumers, 35 million. gadgets 175 mln. different versions, 16 million unique drivers and hardware combinations – so the likelihood of a particular issue that is specific to a particular configuration occurring to one another or another is huge. The loss of data was related to only one of the following configurations: It does not affect Windows users who used the default configuration, but corrupted those who chose some atypical settings.
