Over 40 senior executives (and most commonly known as military generals) and security personnel in charge of METEC (Metals and Engineering Corporation), the largest military industrial complex government Corporation, are arrested today in the capital Addis Ababa, reported Ethiopian reporter.

The reporter, who led anonymous sources, allowed leading METEC management and intelligence officials to be arrested when they had a meeting in the company's building, known as Amoraw, near the Imperial Hotel in Gerji.

The reason for the arrest of officials is unknown and the lists of officials arrested are not disclosed so far.

However, it is known that they are being held at Addis Ababa's Police Commissioner, where the former regional president in Somalia was arrested.

A report by Wazema Radio this week said the government carried out a very secret investigation of corruption scandals, as the business to reorganize the company is underway.

News of their arrest came days after Abiy Ahmed revealed in Gonder during a meeting with members of society that his administration undertook a meaningful military reform in terms of leadership composition in the command structure previously dominated by ethnic Tigers. In a report published yesterday, Ethiopian Satellite Television (ESAT) quoted what it called "Sources near the prime minister" to report that over 160 military generals have been terminated.

METEC has investments in a number of sectors of the economy, but it was more active in the construction and machinery industry. However, the company is often accused of poor project planning and major corruption.

Brigadier General Kinfe Dagnaw (pictured above), who led the company as director until his resignation in April 2018 after Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed's election as prime minister in government, was recently in the media to defend METEC, a company that Ethiopians seems to regard as corrupt and incompetent.
