The purpose of those who were behind these viruses was to monetize their efforts by sending unwanted ads by the user as soon as the device was unlocked.

Malware researcher Lukas Stefanko, from the security company ESET, was the one who disclosed the list of applications. As detailed, they also requested permission for full access to the network and view network and Wi-Fi connections.
