"Pinochetismo is indivisible with regard to the violation of DD.HH"

It has been a few times when RN, Marcela Sabat, deputies have thought about leaving the party there milita 18 years ago. It is acknowledged by Chile Vamo's "liberal" sector and although it does not share the word of its pair Camila Flores or the division of the question that has been done, it continues to say that its challenge is to "validate from the bases liberal sector" of his community.

In this interview he discusses the discussion about pinochetismo. He says that this issue can not be integrated with the sector's diversity and he is concerned that candidates will be raised outside the coalition with reference to the presence of RN alternates with José Antonio Kast.

What happened to you when you heard Deputy Camila Flores say she was a Pinochetista and received applause on the RN Council?

There are several questions. From the less conservative sector there is evil, confusion and surprise. Because we all know that within RN, from its formation, two souls gather in value, liberal and conservative terms that enrich our ideas. In general, our differences are based on it, but when diversity is rooted in pinochetism, we all attach to this as it has to do with human rights violations and with many situations that have caused much pain in Chile. So that applause causes pain.

Do you think this is a backlash for your party and the sector?

I am worried that this situation takes us to the past, into a theme that in national renewal was decided by the majority when we renew our principles. We are a party that wants to talk about the future, who wants to handle social issues and it can be counterproductive.

During the presidency of Cristián Monckeberg, 2014, the Alliance of Dictatorship was eliminated from the RN Principal Declaration. Are you surprised that this happens at your party?

What worries me is that the diversity we have in RN, presented as a positive feature, is flawless and its limits are diffuse. Positively as a positive feature of our party to defend pinochetism, I am concerned, especially if we happen to bear our own principles in condemning any totalitarian, anti-democratic regime, some form of political violence or human rights violations. There is no left here, but there are limits.

Current president of his party, Mario Desbordes, appreciated the diversity of the RN and even the government. Is it legitimate to condemn violations of human rights in the dictatorship, but to assess a possible contribution to the country's institutions?

Pinochetismo is indivisible with regard to the violation of human rights. For that reason, I come from the pain I reveal. It has to do with the way we look at the future and the center of social policy when these voices return. I am concerned about the work in recent years in the quest to look at the future and condemn the violation of human rights. We fall into the same inconsistency where communism falls when it only condemns the dictatorship in Chile and celebrates Maduro or Castro.

You have defined yourself as part of the "liberal center-right" in your sector. What has happened in recent weeks, do you already know in a minority within RN and Chile? Come on?
It is not questionable. By majority, we changed RN's principles three years ago; That is a definite question. We are many more who believe in the future, in diversity as an opportunity to integrate different people who like us, but who do not go beyond our principles, are counterproductive.

On several occasions and when the differences have arisen as you raise today you have thought about leaving your party. Are you going to quit?

No. The challenge is much greater, that is to validate from the bases to the most liberal sector, and to do so from the institutional framework. That is why we must encourage the existence of a liberal RN with knowledge of the cause, which is equally defended and encouraged as the conservative sector. Today, with greater reason, we have a president like Mario Desbordes who also defends liberal ideas that help.

But alternate Desbordes defends that yes the subject can be shared …

It is that these doubts are solved when you read the principle declaration that we voted three years ago. Let's not get past problems and look at the future. The debate has already been decided. My party's president condemns human rights violations.

Deputy Desbordes condemns human rights violations but estimates that there is a Pinochet sector in the RN that shares the issue …

I repeat, it appears that pinochetism and the violation of human rights are indivisible. That we settled three years ago with more than 80% of the vote in parliament. I am worried that we end up in the same inconsistency that we condemn the Communists when they celebrate Maduro and Castro and condemn the Chilean dictatorship.

Are you worried that the majority of deputies who have shown themselves to José Antonio Kast are from your party?

What worries me is not near but the unnecessary moment of raising the presidential candidate outside the party, not only for the damage to internal management, but also for the president's figure Sebastián Piñera. We are only in a first year of government and we must strengthen their leadership and the coalition's internal relations, the rest is to do political fiction.

Deputy Desbordes said yesterday that he had no problems because José Antonio Kast participated in Chile Vamo's primary and that although he won he would support him. If Kast participates in elementary school and wins, would you support him too?

Let's not move on to the scenarios, politics have changed a lot and there's still a long way to go.
