Breast cancer: Underwater technology that helps detect it



Mammograms are an important way to detect possible breast cancer.

But they are not always as effective.

This is due to the different density of women's breasts.

The breasts consist of different types of tissue, including fat.

If a breast has much fibrous or glandular tissue without much fat, it means that it has a greater density. A tight breast restricts the accuracy of mammography, as cancer can hide in the tissue.

It is for this reason that the medical technology company Delphinus has developed one new detection system called SoftVue to better detect cancer in women with frequent breasts.

This system is now being tested in various centers in the United States.

How does it work?

The SoftVue system is a lot less invasive than a normal mammogram.

In a mammogram, the patient's chest is compressed between two plates while an x-ray is taken.

SoftVue, however, is performed by ultrasound so that the patient rests on the stomach with a breasts immersed in warm water.

The SoftVue machine sends out sound waves that surrounds 360 degrees around the chest to create three-dimensional images that allow for easier detection of anomalies.

"We've tested this technology on thousands of patients and everybody says it's the most comfortable exam they've ever had," Forchette says.

Where is it available?

Researchers have reported 10,000 patients for this study in eight centers in the United States.

The idea is to compare the results of patient mammography with SoftVue scans after this trial period to determine the machine's efficiency.

"SoftVue is not intended to replace mammograms," the company's president Delphinus explains.

"Our goal is to use this technology as complement to detect cancer more effectively in women with frequent breasts. "

Breast cancer is One of the most common types of cancer among women: According to data from the World Health Organization from 2018 to 16% of the female population suffers.

According to information from the Pan American Health Organization, this type of cancer is the second most common among women who die of the disease in America.

So even though mammograms are crucial to discovering them, every woman can follow some guidelines to identify abnormalities.
