THE GREAT MATCHUP
Matt Duchene vs. Tyler Seguin
The senator's highest center was held meaningless in Minnesota, but he has been on fire lately, and it has been good news for Ottawa. If the Duches shoot on all cylinders, and he has spent a lot of time at the West Conference, that's good news for Ottawa. The stars have a lot of damage, but Seguin has seven goals and 21 points this season, so he will be the focus of senators.
Five keys to the game
1 – BE SMART IN A ZONE
The senators spent a lot of Thursday skating on the defensive side of the game. Their defensive games must be changed to ensure consistent success, and that's something they've been looking for the whole season. This will be a good test.
2 – STARS IN TUG
Senators must exploit the fact that Dallas is without six injured players right now, including Goaltender Ben Bishop. This is a great opportunity to get back on track before we meet the Red Hot Springs Rangers on Monday.
3 – COMBACK KIDS
You have to give the senators credits to fight back from a 4-1 deficit on the way to Minny, but they can not afford to dig themselves that kind of hole. A strong first period would go far for the club.
4 – DEATH
The punishment of Brady Tkachuk in the first period that led to a 3-0 goal by Wild was not a very good conversation. But the reality is, Wild allowed Wild to do two power-play goals in the game, and it turned out to be the difference.
5 – STOP THE WORLD
Later the losses to the wilderness are 2-6-1 on the way this season, and if they are to compete for a playoff site, it must be improved. This is a difficult journey and senators need a victory simply to increase confidence.
