Ovechkin points point to career-high 14 consecutive games for Capitals

WASHINGTON – Alex Ovechkin has been so hot lately to make a goal and decide the fight in a 4-3 victory against Buffalo Sabers at the Capital One Arena on Saturday, felt like one of the night to Captain Washington Capitals.

"I have quite good chances, but today it was not my day," said Ovechkin. "You can not do every night."

Actually, Ovechkin has been the last time.

With his goal that hit the score at 3-3 with 6:14 left in the second period Saturday, the 33-year-old formed a NHL career high with points in 14 consecutive games. He has 23 points (17 goals, six assists) in his distance, which exceeded his former best of 13 straight games with a score from January 1 to February. 1, 2007 (eight goals, 12 assists).

Ovechkin, leading NHL 29 goals in 32 games this season, scored six straight matches (10 goals), a short of his career's longest goal line, established as a rookie 2005-06 (eight goals in seven games from 10 February to March 8, 2006).

But after making three goals in each of his previous two matches against the Detroit Red Wings (a 6-2 victory Tuesday) and at the Carolina Hurricanes (a 6-5 shootout wins Friday), Ovechkin was disappointed that he could not do it again against the saber to become the first NHL player with three-straight hat tricks.

"It would be nice to have another hatty or anything," said Ovechkin. "But nothing you can do about it."

Ovechkin had to settle for the seventh age of 33 years or older with a score of at least 14 matches, joining Adam Oates (20 games 1996-1997), Gordie Howe (16 games 1962-63 and 14 matches 1963- 64), Luc Robitaille (15 Matches 1999-2000), Wayne Gretzky (15 Matches 1996-1997), Chris Chelios (15 Matches 1995-1996) and Marcel Dionne (14 Matches 1984-85).
