Mandy Moore and 6 women accuse Ryan Adams of abuse

Mandy Moore has accused his former husband, Ryan Adams, of emotional and psychological abuse as part of a shocking New York Times that reveals the complainant's allegedly bad behavior against women.

The This is Us star, 34, along with six other women, talked about how Adam was allegedly exploited and then stifled his ambitions.

"Music was a control point for him," Moore told the publication.

Adams was a decade older than singer / actress Moore when they met in 2007. They were married in 2009 and a year later he offered to help her with an album.

Moore claims that when she divorced her music director, Adams dismissed her from working with others and taking control of her music career.

Adams promised to record songs they wrote together but he never did, Moore has claimed.

When he booked them time at his studio, he replaced her with other singers.

"He would always tell me," You're not a real musician, because you're not playing an instrument, "Moore told the Times.

The lawyer said Adams had been happy to help Moore's career and not prevented her from working with others.

But Moore said, "His controlling behavior substantially blocked my ability to create new relationships in the industry during a very pivotal and potentially lucrative time – all the way to the end of the 20th century."

Other women, including Adam's ex-fiancee Meghan Butterworth, also described him as a controlling and emotionally abusive partner.

Butterworth said Adams harassed her with hundreds of text messages, phone calls and emails after she broke up with him. She claimed Adams threatened to kill herself and sue her, and The Times reviewed these messages.

Other women have claimed Adam's "mentoring" took a dark turn.

A 20-year-old female musician said Adams, 44, had unsuitable conversations with her while she was 15 and 16. Identified by her middle name, Ava, she said Adams sustained during a video call.

Ava said that Adam constantly questioned her about his age in the nine months that they exchanged text messages. The report said she never showed him any identification, and he had pet names for her body parts.

"If people knew they would say I was like R Kelley lol," he wrote to her via text in November 2014 when he was 40 years old and she was 16. R. Kelly has been accused of sexually abusing women and girls but has denied claims.

The singers Phoebe Bridgers and Courtney Jaye said Adams behaved improperly during their relationships.

Adams has denied any fees.

Through his lawyer, he said he had no authority to make or break a career and categorically denied "extremely serious and outlandish accusations" in The Times reporting.

Adams also released a statement on Twitter and said, "I'm not a perfect man and I've made many mistakes. For someone I've ever hurt, but accidentally, apologizes deeply and without reservation."

"What you experience with him – the treatment, the destructive, manic type of back and forth behavior – feels so exclusive," Moore said. "You feel that there is no way other people have been treated like this."

Moore has previously been crying for her unhappy marriage with the rock star.

As Radar revealed last year, Adams went on a Twitter rant against his ex Moore.

He called her bizarre a "damp piece of cardboard".

Moore has now said, "I want to make music. I won't let Ryan stop me."
