Jose Mourinho has claimed that Liverpool is "the lucky" they are hoping to stop waiting for almost three decades to win the English league title.

Mourinho and his Manchester United side visit Anfield on Sunday, staying on Sky Sports Premier League, with Liverpool 16 points ahead of their bitter rivals.

But Mourinho points to the experience that Liverpool had in recent victories over Everton, Bournemouth and Naples as proof of their success as they challenge their first championship since 1990.

"Of course, they are very convinced of themselves," Mourinho told reporters. "They are top in the league, they have this feeling – I know it feels good – the feeling of the happy where everything goes in your direction.

"They know how they beat Everton, they know that the last game, the opening goal was offside, and they know that they could be out of Naples in the last few seconds.

"They have this feeling that I also had when my teams were top in the league and it seems everything is in your direction."

Klopp's side was really hit by a defensive mistake by Jordan Pickford giving them a stopping victory against Everton, although a clear offside opening goal by Mohamed Salah in Bournemouth was just the first of four run by Reds.

And while the midnight victory over Naples was only confirmed when Alisson made a spectacular late rescue, the win took last season's Champions League runner up to the last 16 and has further increased the optimism's mood around Anfield.

"I think they are obviously very, very confident. But I think they are not stupid," said Mourinho.

"They also know that we have our weaknesses, our strengths, and I think they will respect our strengths. I think if they do not, I will be happy with it.

"They know they need all the points if they want to be champions so I think they are professional and professional. They respect Manchester United. They know we can go there and win."
