LJ amputations caused by diabetes are up by almost a fifth.
Diabetes UK said 26 378 forearm amputations were conducted in England from 2014 to 2017 – an increase from 22 092 in the previous three years.
Nearly 3.7 million people have been diagnosed with diabetes in the UK, about 90 percent of those with type 2 diabetes.
People with type 1 and type 2 diabetes are at increased risk of developing problems with the feet, as high blood sugar levels can damage the blood vessels and affect the flow of blood to the feet and legs.
Unnecessary wounds and foot infections are the main cause of diabetes-related amputations, with diabetic foot ulcers preceding more than 80 percent of amputations.
It wants to increase NHS expenditures for preventive care on causes such as unpleasant sores.

Diabetes fruit fight
SNACKING on festive candies like figs and dates helps to prevent diabetes, suggests a study.
Diabetics are told to avoid fruit because of its high sugar content but dried apricots, raisins, sultanas and dates score lower on the glycemic index than white bread.
The study also saw the sweet snacks reverse the body's glycemic reaction against white bread.
This can lead to the fact that manufacturers use dried fruits as an alternative to sugar in food, "says Nutrition and Diabetes.
