At least 10 people died after a landslide struck buildings at Morro da Boa Esperança, in Niterói, the Rio Metropolitan Region, at dawn on Saturday (10). Until the beginning of the night, 11 people were rescued from the walls. According to the fire department, at least four were still missing and searches will be maintained all night.
For night work, a generator was installed in the community to help highlight the area. Several firefighters worked on site with the help of volunteers.
The last confirmed death was an 11 month old baby. The number of remaining remains has not been confirmed by the fireworks, but the company is working on the possibility of finding more victims still living under the walls.

The official said that after the tragedy, 25 properties were involved in society in a preventive way. Robadey said there are no rain forecasts in the coming hours, which would further increase the risk of further landslides.

The mayor of Niterói, Rodrigo Neves (PDT), said the site was not considered to be a high geological risk, and that the tragedy was caused by a "crack in the massif" of the slope.
"This phenomenon today was not a landslide. The fact is that what happened was a cracking of the massif from a point where the tragedy unfortunately occurred."

The Civil Defense Secretary, Commander Roberto Robadey, confirms that the city was paying attention to the rain of the last days.

Firemen work to save sledding victims in Niterói hill
In a statement, Governor Wilson Witze said he regretted what happened. He reported that he had been to Boa Esperança in the afternoon to express solidarity with relatives and friends to the victims and to follow the rescue work carried out by the Fire Department. He also said that he gathered information that would be studied during the government's transition period.
A working group was set up early in the morning to save the victims of the tragedy. About 200 Niteroi Civil Defense, Workers, Conservation, Social Assistance, Health and Cleaning Firm Operators work in an integrated manner with the Fire Department's law and state civil defense in the victim's relief. NitTrans and municipal guards coordinate traffic for access to the region.
A support base was established at Francisco Portugal Neves Municipal School in Piratininga to get homeless. The Municipal Department for Social Assistance and Human Rights reported that it provides food in the premises as well as donation of basic food baskets to families who choose to live with family and friends.

Among the dead are one child, two ladies over 60, a man 37 and a middle-aged woman, according to the fire department. The age and sex of the 11 rescuers have not yet been left by the company.
According to the state hospital, Azevedo Lima, there are 6 patients in hospital. Two are children (2 and 3 years old), one of them in serious condition, and the others are between the ages of 20 and 30 years old.
Resident Rosemary Caetano da Silva, who was injured in the landslide, says her 8 month old grandchild is in the walls.
"My 8 month old grandchild is buried there, I could have my grandson who is in the hospital and my children are in the hospital." Everything that happens there everyone knew it would happen. I would take action, said Rosemary.

On April 7, 2010, the city of Niterói also suffered a tragedy that marked the entire state of Rio de Janeiro. Forty-eight people died in the landslide that buried hundreds of houses in Morro do Bumba, a community near Viçoso Jardim.
The main reason for the disaster was the construction of houses on unstable land, where there was a dumping previously. According to the press office of City Hall of Niterói, the first slide is since Morro do Bumba.
"Since 2013, the city of Niterói has invested more than $ 150 million in detention work on 50 slopes in the city," says the city's communications.
