Poor nutrition, obesity and too many screens affect the sleep of the children



A new study conducted on 177,000 students has shown that sleep deprivation was linked to an unbalanced rate and lifestyle.

Researchers from the Greek University of Harokopio in Athens and the American University of Rutgers in New Jersey conducted a new study, published in the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine, in the sleep of children and adolescents. According to her, obesity, the time spent previously monitors and bad eating habits have a direct link to time and sleep quality.

The research group focused on the sleep of 177,000 children and adolescents living in Greece. The latter were all 8 to 17 years old.

According to the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, children between the ages of 6 and 12 should sleep 9-12 hours a night while teens aged 13-18 will sleep 10 hours a night.

Students received a questionnaire about their eating habits, their sleep hours during weekends and weeks, their physical and sedentary activities. Children who reported that they slept less than 9 hours and those who reported that they slept less than 8 hours were classified as insufficient sleep.

It turned out that 40% of these students slept less than the recommended time.

The researchers found the results that these little sleepers spent more time in front of a screen than others, had more obesity problems and more bad eating habits.

The results showed that lack of sleep was associated with bad eating habits like not having breakfast in the morning, eating junk food, eating candy. This lack of sleep is also associated with obesity and time consumed in front of a screen.

For researchers, lack of sleep is a problem underestimation. This study should drive parents to improve the sleepiness of their children.
