Electricity consumption recorded the lowest rating of 6 years


Demand for electricity fell 3.4% compared with the previous year, the lowest rating for the month since 2012, today announced the Foundation for Electrical Development (Fundelec).

Similarly, the consumption of Federal Capital and Buenos Aires Conurbation showed a significant decrease in both Edesur (-3.1%) and Edenor (-4%), while in the rest of the country the same trend was recorded: -3.3% according to the preliminary data from the Electricity Market Administration Company, CAMMESA.

Fundelec stated that the decline in demand was in residential, commercial and industrial users across the country: October was the second lowest consumption in the year and the lowest rating for that month since 2012, nominally.

Thus, after the quarter (June, July and August), an increase of 5.8% compared with the previous year, the sharpest two-month decrease (September-October) of the year was recorded in percent (-4.4%), whereas in the first ten months of 2018 demand an increase of 1.6% compared with the same period in 2017.

In October 2018, the overall demand for the wholesale electricity market (MEM) was 9,875.1 GWh; with a decrease of 3.4% on an annual basis However, growth was 1% month to month compared with September 2018.

Of total consumption in October, 40% (3 928.8 GWh) demanded housing, while the trade sector accounted for 29% (2 920.4 GWh) and the industrial sector 31% (3 025.9 GWh).
Compared with the comparative year, housing demand was compared with -1.3%, while commercial demand decreased -4% and industry demand showed an even greater decrease: -5.7%.

Nevertheless, after ten months of the year, electricity demand increased by 1.6%.
As for the consumption of areas in the country, in October 18, the provinces and companies marked decreased: Catamarca (-46%), San Luis (-12%), San Juan (-11%), Chubut (-7%) ), Jujuy (-7%), La Rioja (-7%), Tucumán (-6%), Cordoba (-5%), Santiago del Estero (-5%), EDEN (-4%), EDES 3% ), Entre Ríos (-3%), Santa Fe (-2%), La Pampa (-1%), Mendoza (-1%), among others.

For their part, 7 campaigns were recorded in the electrical requirements of MEM in Chaco (9%), Santa Cruz (9%), Corrientes (3%), Formosa (3%), Misiones (3%), EDEA (1%) , EDELAP (1%), among others.
At the same time, Río Negro and Salta maintained their consumption levels in comparison with the previous year, Fundelec explained.

In addition, he pointed out that the average temperature in October was 17.8 ° C, whereas the same month last year was 18.2 ° C and the historical 17.3 ° C.

In this context, the local generation showed a decrease compared with October 2017, which was 10 371 GWh for this month compared with 10 587 GWh for the same period last year.

As in recent months, the share of imports was low when it came to meeting demand: 25 GWh was imported in October 2018, compared to 13 GWh imported in October 2017.

Thermal generation continues to lead the production refund by 59.04% of the requirements, according to data from the whole month, the report was terminated.
