JOHANNESBURG – Dane Vilas was appointed Captain of Jozi Stars on Tuesday for the initial edition of the Mzansi Super League T20 competition.
Vilas made his international debut against India in a single T20 International 2012 and continued to play six test campaigns for South Africa 2015 and 2016.
He was born in Johannesburg and had four successful seasons at Highveld Lion before moving to Cape Cobras in search of more opportunities as a result of Thami Tsolekiles and Quinton de Kock's origins at his previous franchise.
He signed a Kolpak deal with Lancashire before the 2017 season, and has been appointed Captain of the Lancashire Club for 2019.
The 33-year-old was Lancashire's best country champion in his 2018 season.
Now he has made himself available to play for Jozi Stars, and hopes he can add value to his side as he links up with his new teammates, as MSL starts this weekend.
He has played 120 matches in the T20 format and performed well over 2,000 runs.
"I am very pleased to have been offered the leader of Jozi Stars, and I feel honored and humble in order to lead this T20 team in the upcoming Mzansi Super League," he said.
